: Friends act out a stupid, ugly, kind girl by inventing a fan for her. She dies in the besieged Leningrad, sacrificing her life for a fictional lover, never learning about deception.
Sonya was a very ugly fool, kind and simple-minded. She worked as a keeper in a dusty museum. In the forty-first year, she was about to turn forty. In the thirties, Sonina found indispensability in the kitchen, sewing virtues and a willingness to walk with other people's children. Mocker Lev Adolfovich uttered: "if a person is stupid, then this is forever."
Sonya could shout “drink to the bottom” at the funeral service or ask her husband who her beautiful lady with whom he was at the theater yesterday. Ada, Lev Adolfovich’s sister, a sharp-tongued woman who also sometimes got into an awkward position due to Sonya's idiocy, dreamed of punishing her slightly and having some fun herself.
In the thirty-third year, Ada and her friends developed a “hellish plan”. Ada suggested inventing for Sonya a mysterious fan who was madly in love with her, but for some reason could not meet her in person. A fan was created and named by Nicholas. He has a wife and three children. He came up with the address - the apartment of Adin's father. There was doubt - suddenly she would go there, but this argument was rejected as untenable.Firstly, Sonya is a fool, and secondly, her conscience will not allow to destroy the family.
Ada ... trembled with Nikolaev tenderness and unfolded the depths of his lonely restless spirit ... letting in a hint of a destructive passion, the time for the manifestation of which still did not ripen.
Nicholas wrote that in her heart her unforgettable image was forever imprinted, but she was not destined to be near, her duty to children, etc. Sonya, a fool, believed immediately. The correspondence was stormy on both sides. Nicholas wrote poetry, he compared Sonia with a lily, himself - with a nightingale. Then the idea began to bother. The company had plenty of fun.
When the war began, neither Sonya nor Ada managed to evacuate. They were dying of hunger and cold. Having buried both her father and Lev Adolfovich, Ada wrote a farewell letter on behalf of Nikolai. They wrote that "it’s all a lie that she hates everyone, that Sonya is an old fool and a horse, that there was nothing and that you will all be damned."
Apparently, Sonya did not receive this letter. Once she took everything that she had - a jar of pre-war tomato juice, preserved for such a death, and wandered through the whole of Leningrad into the apartment of the dying Nikolai. Nikolai was lying under a pile of a coat in an earflap with a black scary face. Sonya gave him juice from a spoon and left with a bucket for water. She never returned. They bombed heavily that day. There was a man - and not him. One name left.
Ada survived. She obviously burned the letters of Sonina in the icy winter.
