Courage is the price of victory. The fact that our people generously paid to the altar of the Second World War. At the cost of the incredible courage of the Russian people, the world freed itself from the Nazi threat. That is why today it is so important to remember the words of Bulat Shalovich Okudzhava and to cultivate courage in oneself. Russian literature helps us with this, where examples of courage, endurance and determination are abundantly presented.
In the story of Vasil Bykov “Sotnikov” we find confirmation that courage can lurk in each of us, even the most timid-looking person. The main character, frail and physically weak partisan, goes on a mission with a strong and tall partner. On the way, they are ambushed and hiding in the village. But due to Sotnikov’s illness, the enemies still find fugitives and begin a tough interrogation. Contrary to expectations, a sick and unprepared man withstands torture and does not surrender his comrades. He is trying to make sure that both his partner and the woman in whose house they took refuge are released. She doesn’t even worry about herself; she bravely looks death in the eye. He knows that he will be killed, and is ready to suffer for his homeland. But the Fisherman turns out to be a vile and cowardly man, incapable of sacrifice.
In the poem by A. Twardowski "Vasily Terkin" the main character embodied all the courage of the Russian people in the fight against the invaders. Almost every chapter he risks himself, not demanding awards and titles, but simply helping his comrades save the homeland. For example, in the chapter “Crossing”, Vasily crosses a cold river to send a report on the situation of troops on the opposite bank in time. No one ordered him to do this, he himself showed courage and went on a risky voyage. A soldier could die, having fallen under a hail of enemy bullets, could freeze and drown, could be mortally ill from hypothermia. However, all these risks did not stop him on his way to the goal.
Thus, victory is a direct consequence of the fact that the people gathered their strength and did not stand up to the price, showing strength, courage and endurance. Courage is an integral part of any victorious battle, therefore it is important to be able to brace oneself and bravely defend one’s interests.
