Therefore, society did not accept the girl: she was too dissimilar to other people.
Olesya is the main example of a “natural man”, on whom the “vicious” civilization did not exert its destructive influence, and whose moral beauty is pure. She does not have “witch things” - on the contrary, she is smart and smart, kind and honest, not only with others, but also with herself. The heroine acquired the authenticity of feelings and the directness of words, as well as phenomenal wisdom in the wilderness, where everything happens in its own way, maliciously and reasonably. Animals attack other animals only to feed themselves; they do not have cruelty for the sake of cruelty. Therefore, Olesya does not understand the peasants who pounced on her near the church, where they are taught kindness and mercy. The hypocritical hypocrisy covers up their inner anger, which found a way out in the lynching of the unfortunate victim. The girl was never able to understand people who were isolated from the world of nature and harmony. Under the conditions of civilization, they have become dishonored and hardened, they are governed not by natural laws, but by stereotypes and prejudices. In contrast, they depict the beautiful and virtuous Olesya, who studies medicine, finding a common language with the outside world. It is interesting that Kuprin introduces into the narrative the more educated representative of civilization - Ivan Timofeevich. But he does not stand comparison with a natural person. If Olesya ends their relations so that he would not be condemned by the village, then he could not save his beloved from public shame, because he did not care about her the way she did about him.
Thus, Kuprin says that the “natural man” is pure and innocent because he is close to nature and learns from it to find harmony with himself and the world around him.
