(281 words) Each of the pleiad of landowners in the poem Dead Souls is special in its own way. Each of them expresses a certain type of landowners of that time, each has its own unforgettable traits of character and appearance.
Sobakevich Mikhail Semenovich is the fourth landowner, to which Chichikov comes to redeem the souls of dead landowners. Outwardly, he resembled a medium-sized bear, he was about fifty, married. He was a well-built, large, clumsy, and clumsy man. The author comically notes that even the name of the landowner is Mikhail Semenovich (Misha). Sobakevich does not like to rant like Minilov, he does not have his forgotten reverie. He is a straightforward person, he speaks briefly and on business.
Sobakevich’s house is very similar in arrangement of the yard and inside with its owner. Around the courtyard there was a strong high fence, in the house all the furniture shouted: “And I Sobakevich”, as it was big, strict, heavy and practical. He bothered a lot about safety and strength in absolutely everything. Even all his men are very strong, strong people. He knows each of them by name, knows all their good and bad qualities, values them very much and treats them as his own, not separating himself from the working people very much.
It is impossible not to say that Mikhail Semenovich loves to eat deliciously, but more importantly, to eat and always and everywhere strive to satisfy his literally inhuman appetite. Even in food, he prefers integrity and solidity: if the goose is on the table, then all, if the sturgeon is also all. At the same time, at the table with Chichikov, he does not hesitate to say that he didn’t “... love to speak well of anyone ...” (with the exception of his serfs).
Thus, it is difficult to unambiguously judge this landowner, since there are many contradictions in his character. On the one hand, he does not like the people around him, but he treats his peasants very well and carefully watches his household.
